The life and death of St Kilda
This Revised Edition 1994. Publisher's original sepia photographic card wrap covers. Quarto 8'' x 5''. Contains 297 printed pages of text with monochrome photographs throughout. There is an assumption that the St Kildans were a utopian society wrenched from their isolated idyll by vicious mainlanders. In truth, theirs was a desperately sick and starving community controlled by superstition and religious dogma. So sheltered were the St Kildans that a large percentage of them were dead within three years of relocation, so frail were their immune systems and abilities to cope with change. A vital part of Scottish history, and required reading for those interested in the new community that is settling in these beautiful Islands. Now a Trust Property.
